The book's setting is in the mojave desert in california. Madec a lawyer is out in the dersert trying to shoot bighorn sheep and accidentally shoots a old man. Ben wants to go to college but, has no money and has to show Madec where the bighorn are so he to goes to college. Madec trys to bribe Ben and does not suceed. then Madec forces Ben to strip down and sends him in the desert with no food and no water.
